This Friday, August 3, is the Taste of the Eastern Shore. This annual event benefits Daphne High School and takes place from 7 to 10 pm at the Daphne Civic Center. It features 50 of the best Mobile and Baldwin County food and beverage establishments. This year, the Taste goes “Wild West.” It’s sure to be a fun night. Call the Daphne Civic Center at 251-626-5300 or visit www.tasteoftheasternshore.com for more information.

August 3 is also the First Friday ArtWalk in downtown Fairhope. This monthly affair is always great fun. I love visiting with friends, nibbling tasty snacks, and sipping wine while I check out what’s new in the galleries. Be sure to check out the Art Takes Flight pelicans that perch and hover throughout downtown. A fund raising project of the Fairhope Committee on Public Art, more than 70 pelicans were decorated by talented local artists and will be sold at auction in September. Read all about them at www.arttakesflight.com.

Sales Tip of the Week

Consider having your home inspected before you put it on the market. Buying a home is a big decision, and homebuyers want to feel confident that they’ve made the right decision. By having your home inspected before it goes on the market, you learn of any potential problems when you can deal with them unemotionally and before they become a sticking point with your sale. Prospective buyers get the reassurance that you have cared for your home and that there shouldn’t be any unpleasant surprises after the closing!

The lazy, hazy days of summer are definitely upon us! It may be hot, but I love summer on the Eastern Shore. I’ve filled my freezer with fresh-picked blueberries and now figs are in season! Yum!!

Did you know that vacationers have been coming to the Eastern Shore since the 1800s? In those days, visitors would hop on a bay boat for the trip from Mobile to Fairhope to enjoy the “excellent bathing, boating and fishing and the health-giving breezes from the salt water and piney woods,” according to a story in the Fairhope Courier, dated 1895.

There are great spots to enjoy those “health-giving breezes” of the Eastern Shore today, including Historic Blakeley State Park in Spanish Fort (www.blakeleypark.org) Daphne’s Bayfront Park (www.daphneal.com), the Fairhope Pier (www.cofairhope.com) or the boardwalk at the Grand Hotel (www.marriottgrand.com).

Sales Tip of the Week

Keep your yard mowed, the weeds pulled, and the flowers watered. You never know when your buyer may be driving by!
